Tempo Bar (formerly known as La Esencia) occupies a two-story colonial building, built in 1880s as a mansion. Currently, it is owned by the musician Gaspar Agüero. Although it is known as a bar, it operates also as a restaurant that has a retro-styled decoration and a high ceiling. The ambience around the bar is good. The walls are decorated with logos of famous brands like Polar beer, Hatuey, Coca Cola, Materva, among many others, together with musical instruments and photographs of some famous Cuban artists.

Tempo Bar is one of the trendy bars in Havana where Cubans of all ages meet. The music selection is wide and changes according to the hosted DJ of that night: from Cuban all-time hits to international singles. Be aware of the themed nights like the Karaoke Night (usually on Wednesday nights) or LGBT Nights (usually Monday nights) before you go there.  Friday’s happy hours (from 5pm to 8pm) that allow you to taste some cocktails based on rum, vodka and gin for a half-price, are popular among young students and professionals.

The bar has a great cocktail menu. Recommended drink: Canchánchara cocktail. In the restaurant you can taste the tapas and pizzas.
