If you plan a trip to Havana, you will need to prepare a list of places that you shouldn’t miss to visit, particularly, if you have restricted time. Even though, you don’t have such a plan, I am sure that you will change your mind after a short journey through the pages of this website.
The irresistible charm of the
capitol will capture you, as you get deeper in the history of
the city and involve in the sociocultural life. Havana is not
only a city where you will ride a vintage car, or enjoy the
cocktails, prepared by Cuban rum, on a rooftop bar. Havana is a
city in that you will spend excellent time by exploring the
street art at every corner. You will be living in nostalgia,
when you will wander through the architectural treasures of the
city that challenge time. The time seems to have stopped here.
Havana is famous with its mini street festivals, where the sound of the traditional drums is mixed with modern reggaeton and salsa songs. You will find yourself dancing with the rumba rhythms, accompanied by the drums. Music and dance became a ritual in the life of the warm and friendly Havana people. Havana is a safe city; you can walk without any fear of extortion and attack.
Havana has fine white sand beaches along the north coast, among which Playa del Este is a natural wonder. Additionally, Havana has an ideal location from which you can make one-day excursions to beautiful areas like Pinar del Rio and Varadero.
Due to the long political and
economic embargo laid on Cuba, the island has remained largely
undiscovered, particularly by the US citizens. Thus, it had
prevented Havana to be invaded by the indispensable elements of
the American culture, like McDonald’s, Pizza Hut etc., although
the island was so close to the US. It is highly recommended to
taste the Creole food in Havana, still prepared according to the
grandmother' recipe.
Now, Cuba is again popular for
the European tourist, as well a for the US citizen. There
are plenty of hotels in the capitol; however, staying in a rent
house (casa particular) will give you a unique insight into
local life.
Havana has many museums and
house museums on different topics, as well as art galleries.
Don’t miss to include these places into your program, as much as
you can.
