The Centro Cultural Bertolt Brecht was
established in 1988. It was re-opened in 2008, after being fully
restored, with new stage equipment, furniture and
air-conditioning. It consists of two halls for theater
performances, Tito Junco and Sala Estudio, and, also the Café
Teatro Bertolt Brecht and the Raúl Oliva gallery. It is the
permanent headquarters of groups such as Little Havana Theater,
Teatro Mío , Teatro del Círculo and Teatro D´Dos.
The Café Teatro Bertolt Brecht, one of
the coolest night spot in Havana, is located on the basement of
the building. It is an informal and popular music venue for some
of the best contemporary Cuban musicians, such as Sintesis,
David Torrens, Qba Libre, Polito Ibáñez, Interactivo and Raul
Paz.
The ceiling is low. Fortunately, it is
a non-smoking place (except the corridor). To be able to sit on
a table, you have to come early. The crowd consists of mostly
young Cubans. Like in similar places, the screaming girls are at
the front. There is no real dance floor, but you have to move to
the music already. The doors open at 23:00. There is also another café of the
complex in front of the building that is open at day time.
