After paying the entrance fee at the park entrance to get to the waterfalls, you have to take the well-maintained path that is a little bit over one kilometer long. The path is known as Reino de las Aguas (Kingdom of the Waters) and it starts with Paso de las Mariposas (Butterfly Pass) There are some wooden bridges with improvised railings to cross the water at several points. Along the way you can discover the rich fauna of the area, such as the national bird tocororo (Cuban trogon), along with the cartacubas, parrots, woodpeckers and hummingbirds that live in an exuberant flora where more than 65 endemic plants also live, such as the beautiful palmiches, ferns, orchids, among other diverse plants. You should be happy to see greenery everywhere under your feet.

Your first destination will be Poceta de los Enamorados that you will see shortly after starting the trip. It is a place where you will be not able to keep yourself from swimming in the cold and clear water to get away from the heat and humidity of the area. The deepest area reaches a depth of 4 meters. It is surrounded by smooth stones, shaped by the constant flow of the bluish-green water. The best place to the photos is the small bridge over the river. According to the legend about this place, if two lovers bathe in this natural pool together, they would be together for the rest of their lives.

The path Reino de las Aguas splits into two here, but a little further, the paths converge by creating a loop. If you go left, you will arrive one of the most attractive place of El Nicho, the waterfall called as Los Desparramaderos (Scatters). The water spreads from more than 30 meters and hits the rocks, forming whirlwinds with foam that give the environment, rich of palm trees, a persistent mist.

If you follow the rest of the path, you will meet Poceta de Cristal, the pearl of not only El Nico but also the whole region between Cienfuegos and Trinidad. It is large natural pool with crystal clear water, fed by several small waterfalls. Most of the people prefer to a refreshing swim here. The strong sound of water falling through its seven meters high announces its presence. When arriving here, each visitor first decides to take photos: it is a beautiful place.

After going down the stairs and reaching the path again, it is advisable to go up to the left to reach the mirador (viewpoint)to take the best photos. Then go up a little more and there, to the right, you will find a small path that goes down directly to the Poceta de los Enamorados
There are some simple, rustic paladars where you can taste the Creole dishes; one at the beginning of the Reino de las Aguas, and some more, where your parked your car. All the same.
In addition to Lake Hanabanilla, a few kilometers away, from there you can travel by road to other places of interest belonging to the mountainous geography of Cienfuegos such as Loma de Ventana, Cuatro Vientos, Pico San Juan (highest point of the Topes de Collantes) and the Martín Infierno Cave, which has the largest stalagmite in Latin America, 67 meters high.
