The Galería
Habana occupies the ground floor of an apartment block. It was
established in 1962 as a cultural institution to spread the
plastic arts in the country and to promote the commercialization
of the works of young Cuban artists. As one of the
longest-standing art spaces of Havana, it witnessed the
exhibition of the works of several of the country’s most
celebrated artists, such as Wilfredo Lam, René Portocarrero,
Mariano Rodríguez and Amelia Peláez, accrediting the high
professional level of the place.
On the white walls of the gallery,
young contemporary artists exhibit their works. Exhibitions
change every three months, with many pieces offered for sale.
The Galería Habana has also been transformed into an informal stage, where the works are auctioned (Subasata Habana). The works are registered in the online auction catalogue that is renewed annually. The online catalogue has already twelve editions; however, the website can’t be accessed currently.
The
publications of the gallery, and the fairs and the shows that
the gallery participated can be checked at its official website
(https://www.galerihabana.com/galeria.php).
