Casa de las Tradiciones is a center for the promotion of traditional Cuban popular culture, permeated by French, African and Spanish cultures; a center that tries to rescue its most indigenous values of the community. It is the right place for people that search for the traditions in music, dance, plastic arts and literary that are fused with a unique authenticity for several generations: no need to wander more through the city.
This building that was formerly a residence, opened its doors to the music and dance lovers as Casa de las Tradiciones in 1996. In a short time, it became a meeting point where famous bands and musicians reflected the true spirit and essence of this biggest Caribbean Island. The fact that it is a little far from the city center saves it from being a place filled with tourists who are not necessarily interested in authentic Cuban music and who are looking for a place to photograph and to tell their friends later.
Every night a different trova band performs its music in a cozy atmosphere. This allows you to enjoy new bands on a regular basis. The walls are lined with photographs, reminding us of many pleasant memories.
La Casa de las Tradiciones presents the Roberto García Ibañez Orality Award within the framework of the Caribbean Festival. During the celebration of the Caribbean Festival the Casa de las Tradiciones becomes an important cultural venue with a varied artistic and theoretical program, where important artists from various manifestations of traditional popular culture take part. Casa de la Tradiciones' contributions to popular culture also include events such as Peñas del Remembrance (every Friday), Peñas del Bolero (every Sunday), Poetry Peña (the last Saturdays of each month) and Tabaco Peña (Saturday mornings).
